LIGHTS ON AFTERSCHOOL ALBERTA
A PROJECT OF THE SCHOOL AGE CARE DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION OF ALBERTA
Lights On After School Alberta is a province-wide event celebrating afterschool programs and their role in keeping kids safe, inspiring them to learn, and helping working families.
The effort is becoming a hallmark of the afterschool movement and allows programs and communities to celebrate annually. Inspired by the Lights on national movement in the United States of America.
Lights On After School is an advocacy initiative that helps shine a light on the importance and effect of afterschool care programs in Alberta and helps programs develop connections with parents, schools, other advocates, groups, and businesses in our communities to highlight and expand the importance of after-school programs.
This year the School Age Cared Directors Association (SACDA) is asking programs across the province to participate by either hosting their own event or having community stakeholders show their support by keeping their homes or businesses lights on until midnight on April 19th, 2024.
We hope for this year to be our biggest event chain yet and help influence positive change and awareness of the importance of Afterschool programs during those critical hours.

Complete our Provincial Feedback Survey
Dear Early Childhood Educators, leaders, advocates and Community Stakeholders,
In response to the recent announcement of cuts to government funding for accredited child care programs and certified educators, the School Age Care Directors Association of Alberta (SACDA) has created a survey to gather information on the impact these changes will have on Alberta's families and providers.
We would like to gather as much data as possible from ALL child care programs, including approved family day homes, out of school care programs, pre-schools and daycares across the province; we ask that you PLEASE FORWARD this survey to any and all community stakeholders that may be impacted by recent funding changes.
We have already had over 160 surveys completed already! The data from this survey will help us develop an educated response when we speak to policymakers about changes that affect our entire sector. If you have any questions or concerns, or if you would like additional information on future advocacy work around the funding cuts, please contact SACDA directly at: calgarysacda@gmail.com.
Thank you for your support.
